Research integrity and COPE principles
Jurnal Penelitian is committed to promoting ethical scholarly publishing and maintaining the integrity, credibility, transparency, and accessibility of the scientific record. All parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, share responsibility for upholding these principles.
This policy establishes the ethical standards and procedures applicable to manuscript submission, editorial assessment, peer review, research integrity, publication decisions, and post-publication actions.
The policy is informed by recognized principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) , together with applicable institutional requirements, research ethics standards, and the journal's approved editorial policies.
Contents
1. Ethical Principles and Scope
Jurnal Penelitian upholds ethical standards throughout the scholarly publication process, from manuscript submission to long-term preservation of the published record.
The journal is guided by the principles of scientific integrity, originality, accountability, impartiality, confidentiality, transparency, and respect for the rights of research participants and intellectual property holders.
These standards apply to all manuscript categories considered by the journal, including original research articles, review articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, scoping reviews, conceptual or theoretical articles, and case studies.
Authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher must cooperate appropriately in preventing, identifying, investigating, and addressing ethical concerns. Editorial decisions must be based on scientific merit and compliance with the journal's policies.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
Authors are responsible for the originality, accuracy, transparency, and ethical integrity of their manuscripts. Submitted work must provide an honest and sufficiently detailed account of the research undertaken.
Authors are expected to:
- Present research objectives, methods, findings, and conclusions accurately and without misleading representation.
- Ensure that data, figures, tables, citations, and references are authentic and appropriately documented.
- Submit original work that has not been published previously and is not under simultaneous consideration elsewhere, subject to applicable disclosure requirements.
- Acknowledge the contributions of other researchers and cite relevant sources accurately.
- Obtain all necessary ethical approvals, permissions, and informed consent where applicable.
- Disclose relevant funding sources, conflicts of interest, data availability, and substantive use of artificial intelligence.
- Ensure that all listed authors have approved the manuscript and agreed to its submission.
- Respond to editorial inquiries and requests for clarification in a timely and professional manner.
- Notify the editorial office promptly if a significant error is discovered before or after publication.
Authors must comply with the journal's current Author Guidelines and Focus and Scope.
3. Authorship and Contributorship
Authorship must accurately reflect substantial intellectual contributions to the research and preparation of the manuscript. Individuals listed as authors must be able to take appropriate responsibility for their contributions and the integrity of the published work.
All authors must approve the submitted manuscript, agree to its submission, and approve the final version intended for publication. The corresponding author is responsible for coordinating communication between the journal and all co-authors.
Guest authorship, honorary authorship, ghost authorship, and misleading authorship attribution are not permitted. Individuals who contributed to the research but do not qualify for authorship should be acknowledged appropriately, subject to confidentiality and consent requirements.
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors must be accompanied by a clear explanation and documented agreement among all affected authors. Changes after acceptance will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and require editorial approval.
For double-blind peer review, identifying author information must be provided separately from the anonymized manuscript, in accordance with the submission instructions.
4. Research Ethics and Informed Consent
Research involving human participants, animals, personal information, or activities subject to ethical oversight must comply with applicable institutional, national, and disciplinary requirements.
Where ethical approval is required, authors must obtain such approval before conducting the relevant research activities and provide appropriate information about the approving institution or ethics committee.
Participation in research involving human subjects must be voluntary, and informed consent must be obtained where applicable. Authors must take appropriate measures to protect participants' rights, welfare, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
Research involving children, students, vulnerable individuals, or sensitive personal information requires particular attention to applicable safeguards and authorization requirements.
Personally identifiable information, photographs, recordings, quotations, or other materials that could reveal participant identities must not be published without an appropriate ethical and legal basis.
Research involving safety-sensitive systems, aviation operations, hazardous procedures, or specialized equipment must also comply with relevant safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
Where formal ethical approval is not required, authors remain responsible for explaining the ethical safeguards employed. Ethical approval must not be fabricated or retrospectively misrepresented.
5. Originality, Plagiarism, and Data Integrity
Jurnal Penelitian does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, misleading manipulation of research materials, or other forms of research misconduct.
Manuscripts may be evaluated using similarity-screening software and other appropriate editorial methods before external peer review.
Similarity reports must be interpreted in context. Numerical similarity alone does not establish plagiarism, and editorial assessment should consider the nature, extent, and attribution of overlapping material.
Authors must acknowledge previous publications accurately, including their own work when relevant. Text recycling, redundant publication, and inappropriate duplication of research findings may be investigated.
Research data must not be invented, fabricated, selectively altered, or presented in ways that misrepresent the findings. Images, figures, tables, statistical analyses, and supporting materials must reflect authentic research evidence.
Authors may be requested to provide underlying data, research instruments, analysis documentation, or other supporting evidence when necessary for editorial assessment or research-integrity investigations, subject to ethical, legal, and confidentiality restrictions.
Authors must select references on the basis of scholarly relevance. The journal does not require unnecessary citations to its own publications or to particular authors for the purpose of artificially increasing citation metrics.
6. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors must manage submitted manuscripts fairly, independently, confidentially, and in accordance with established scholarly and ethical standards.
Editorial responsibilities include:
- Evaluating manuscripts on scientific merit, originality, methodology, clarity, relevance, and ethical compliance.
- Applying editorial criteria consistently and without discrimination unrelated to scholarly assessment.
- Ensuring that manuscripts undergo appropriate initial screening and peer review.
- Selecting reviewers with relevant expertise and without unmanaged conflicts of interest.
- Protecting confidential manuscript information and reviewer identities.
- Providing authors with clear and constructive editorial communications.
- Considering reviewer recommendations critically rather than treating them as automatic decisions.
- Addressing suspected research misconduct through fair, evidence-based procedures.
- Maintaining appropriate records of editorial decisions and significant ethical concerns.
The Editor-in-Chief holds final responsibility for manuscript acceptance and rejection decisions, with appropriate delegation of editorial tasks and management of conflicts of interest.
Editors must not use unpublished material, confidential information, or privileged ideas obtained during editorial assessment for personal research or advantage without appropriate authorization.
Editorial judgments must be made by qualified human editors. Neither publication fees nor automated systems may determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected.
7. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Jurnal Penelitian applies a double-blind peer-review model, under which reasonable measures are taken to conceal the identities of authors and reviewers from each other.
Manuscripts proceeding to external review are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with appropriate expertise in the relevant research area.
Reviewers are expected to:
- Accept assignments only when they possess appropriate expertise and can complete the review within the agreed period.
- Declare relevant conflicts of interest before accepting an assignment.
- Keep manuscripts, data, supplementary files, and editorial communications confidential.
- Provide objective, constructive, evidence-based, and professionally expressed evaluations.
- Assess originality, methodological rigor, clarity, scholarly contribution, and research integrity.
- Identify significant methodological limitations, unsupported conclusions, or relevant overlooked literature.
- Inform the editor confidentially about suspected plagiarism, duplication, fabrication, or other ethical concerns.
- Avoid using confidential manuscript content for personal, professional, or competitive advantage.
- Refrain from requiring unnecessary citations or recommending citations solely to increase citation counts.
Reviewers must not contact authors directly regarding a manuscript under review unless expressly authorized by the editorial office.
Reviewer recommendations inform editorial decisions, but the final acceptance or rejection decision remains the responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief.
Additional information is available in the Peer Review Process.
8. Artificial Intelligence and Confidentiality
The use of artificial intelligence in scholarly publishing must be transparent, responsible, and consistent with the journal's official AI Policies.
8.1. Use of AI by Authors
Authors may use AI-assisted tools for permitted manuscript preparation activities, including language improvement, grammar checking, and reference formatting, provided that scientific reasoning, interpretation, and responsibility remain with the human authors.
AI tools must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully accountable for the accuracy, originality, validity, and ethical integrity of submitted work.
The use of AI tools must be disclosed in accordance with the journal's AI Policies. The disclosure should identify the tool, version, and purpose of use and should be placed in the Acknowledgments section as prescribed by the policy.
When no AI tools have been used, a declaration of non-use is not required under the current AI Policies.
8.2. AI-Generated Figures and Images
The journal does not permit generative AI tools to create or alter figures, images, or artwork in submitted manuscripts, except where such use is an integral and transparently documented component of the approved research methodology, as specified in the official AI Policies.
Permitted image adjustments must not obscure, remove, fabricate, or misrepresent research information.
8.3. Use of AI by Reviewers and Editors
Reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, unpublished data, or other protected submission materials to external AI systems without explicit authorization and appropriate confidentiality safeguards.
Reviewers must not delegate their scholarly assessment to generative AI. Any permitted assistance must comply with the journal's disclosure and confidentiality requirements.
Editorial staff may use approved tools for administrative or technical support, but AI systems must not make acceptance or rejection decisions.
Authors, reviewers, and editors must consult the complete AI Policies of Jurnal Penelitian for detailed requirements, restrictions, and disclosure procedures.
9. Conflicts of Interest and Editorial Independence
Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest that could influence the conduct, assessment, interpretation, or publication of research.
Conflicts may arise from financial relationships, employment, institutional affiliations, research collaborations, personal relationships, professional competition, or other relevant circumstances.
9.1. Authors
Authors must provide a Conflict of Interest statement, including an explicit declaration when no conflict exists. Relevant funding sources must also be disclosed.
9.2. Editors and Reviewers
Editors and reviewers must disclose relevant conflicts and withdraw from or be reassigned away from manuscript assessments when impartiality cannot be maintained.
9.3. Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions must be independent of commercial, institutional, political, personal, or financial pressures that are unrelated to the scientific quality and ethical acceptability of manuscripts.
Article processing charges must not influence editorial screening, reviewer recommendations, or manuscript acceptance decisions. Applicable fees must be communicated transparently through the official Publication Fee Policy.
The journal's open-access licensing policy for new publications uses the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0) . Previously published articles remain subject to their applicable licensing terms unless a change is properly authorized.
10. Misconduct Allegations and Investigations
Jurnal Penelitian takes allegations of research and publication misconduct seriously and is committed to handling concerns through fair, confidential, proportionate, and evidence-based procedures.
Potential concerns may include plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, duplicate publication, inappropriate authorship, undisclosed conflicts of interest, manipulated research images, unethical research practices, or misuse of artificial intelligence.
10.1. Preliminary Assessment
The editorial office will conduct an initial assessment of credible allegations to determine their relevance, seriousness, available evidence, and appropriate next steps.
Relevant submission records, communications, similarity reports, research documentation, and other supporting materials may be examined as appropriate.
10.2. Author Clarification and Evidence
Where appropriate, the corresponding author and other relevant parties will be given an opportunity to provide clarification, supporting documentation, or a response to the concerns raised.
The journal will protect confidential information, avoid premature conclusions, and manage conflicts of interest during the assessment.
10.3. Further Investigation
When the matter requires institutional investigation, specialized expertise, or access to information outside the journal's authority, the editorial office may refer the concern to the relevant institution or responsible authority, consistent with applicable procedures.
10.4. Editorial Outcomes
Depending on the evidence, seriousness of the concern, publication status, and applicable guidance, outcomes may include:
- A request for clarification or additional documentation.
- Correction or revision of a manuscript before publication.
- Rejection of a manuscript.
- Suspension of editorial processing while significant concerns are assessed.
- Referral to an institution or appropriate authority.
- Publication of a correction, expression of concern, or retraction where justified.
Editorial actions must be proportionate to the established facts and documented through appropriate journal records. The journal may consult relevant COPE guidance when determining the appropriate response.
11. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern
Jurnal Penelitian is committed to maintaining an accurate, reliable, transparent, and permanent scholarly record. Post-publication issues will be assessed according to their nature, seriousness, and implications for the reliability of the published work.
11.1. Corrections
A correction may be issued when an identified error requires formal amendment but does not fundamentally invalidate the main findings or conclusions.
Corrections should clearly identify the original article, describe the matter being corrected, and provide appropriate links between the correction notice and the scholarly record.
11.2. Retractions
Retraction may be appropriate when serious errors, unreliable findings, unethical research practices, or substantiated misconduct materially undermine the reliability or integrity of a publication.
A retraction notice should identify the affected article, explain the basis for the action to the extent appropriate, and remain publicly accessible.
Retraction does not ordinarily require the complete removal of the article from the scholarly record. The original record should be retained and clearly marked as retracted, except where compelling legal or safety considerations require another approach.
11.3. Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be issued when serious and credible questions about a published article remain unresolved and readers should be informed while further assessment is undertaken.
11.4. Withdrawal of Unpublished Manuscripts
Withdrawal requests concerning manuscripts that have not yet been formally published are handled through the editorial workflow and should be distinguished from post-publication retractions.
11.5. Preservation of the Scholarly Record
Published articles must not be silently deleted, replaced, or altered to conceal publication problems. Significant changes should be documented transparently through appropriate notices, version records, and links.
Changes in journal branding, editorial management, website design, publishing platform, or institutional administration are not, by themselves, grounds for removing previously published scholarly content.
12. Complaints, Appeals, and Policy Governance
12.1. Complaints
Authors, reviewers, readers, and other relevant parties may raise concerns regarding editorial procedures, peer review, publication ethics, research integrity, or post-publication matters.
Complaints should be submitted through the journal's official contact channel and should provide sufficient information to identify the matter, relevant submission or article, and supporting evidence where available.
12.2. Appeals of Editorial Decisions
Authors may appeal an editorial decision when they believe that a significant factual, procedural, or interpretative error affected the assessment of their manuscript.
An appeal must present a clear, reasoned explanation supported by relevant evidence. A difference of opinion regarding the editorial outcome, without substantive grounds, does not automatically justify reconsideration.
12.3. Review of Complaints and Appeals
Complaints and appeals will be assessed fairly, confidentially, and without inappropriate retaliation. The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for coordinating editorial consideration of such matters.
When the Editor-in-Chief has a relevant conflict of interest or is directly involved in the matter under appeal, assessment should be delegated to an appropriately qualified and unconflicted editor or responsible institutional authority.
The outcome and reasons for the decision should be communicated to the complainant or appellant as appropriate, subject to confidentiality obligations.
12.4. Policy Governance and Review
This Publication Ethics policy is maintained under the editorial governance of Jurnal Penelitian and will be reviewed periodically to reflect developments in scholarly publishing, research integrity, applicable regulations, and relevant publication ethics guidance.
The updated policy framework is intended for the December 2026 publication cycle and subsequent issues. Concerns involving previously published work will be assessed with due regard to the applicable publication record, rights, and ethical standards.
Authors and other stakeholders are encouraged to contact the editorial office through the journal's Official Contact Page .
