Jurnal Penelitian is committed to maintaining the originality, credibility, and integrity of scholarly publications. The journal adopts a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism and requires all submitted manuscripts to comply with recognized standards of academic honesty, responsible citation, and research integrity.
All manuscripts submitted to the journal are subject to similarity screening using plagiarism-detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate, as part of the editorial assessment process.
The journal's plagiarism and retraction procedures are implemented in conjunction with its Publication Ethics Policy , which establishes the broader principles for addressing research misconduct, editorial investigations, corrections, and post-publication actions.
1. Similarity Threshold and Screening
All manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Penelitian are screened for textual similarity using plagiarism-detection software, such as Turnitin or iThenticate. Similarity screening supports the editorial assessment of manuscript originality and appropriate acknowledgment of existing scholarly literature.
Maximum Similarity Threshold: 20%
The maximum acceptable overall similarity score is 20%.
Manuscripts with an overall similarity score exceeding 20% will be returned to the authors for revision or rejected, in accordance with the journal's existing editorial policy.
A similarity report identifies textual overlap between a manuscript and available sources. However, a numerical similarity score is not, by itself, conclusive evidence of plagiarism.
Editors assess the nature and extent of identified similarities, including whether the overlapping material has been appropriately quoted, paraphrased, cited, or otherwise acknowledged.
Similarity arising from references, commonly used terminology, standard methodological descriptions, or properly attributed quotations may require contextual consideration during editorial evaluation.
Conversely, a similarity score at or below 20% does not automatically establish that a manuscript is free from plagiarism. Substantial unattributed use of another person's text, ideas, data, or findings remains prohibited regardless of the overall similarity percentage.
The final editorial assessment considers both compliance with the journal's similarity threshold and the substantive originality of the submitted manuscript.
2. Prohibited Plagiarism and Research Misconduct
Jurnal Penelitian prohibits all forms of plagiarism and related violations of research integrity. The following practices are unacceptable in manuscripts submitted to or published by the journal.
2.1. Direct Plagiarism
Reproducing another person's words, sentences, paragraphs, or other written materials without appropriate attribution and acknowledgment of the original source.
2.2. Mosaic Plagiarism
Combining or closely imitating phrases, sentences, or ideas from multiple sources without adequate acknowledgment, including instances in which superficial wording changes are used to conceal dependence on the original material.
2.3. Self-Plagiarism
Reusing substantial portions of an author's previously published text, data, or research findings without appropriate citation, disclosure, or justification.
Authors must clearly acknowledge their relevant previous publications and avoid misleading representations of previously published material as entirely new work.
2.4. Data Fabrication
Creating or reporting nonexistent research data, observations, measurements, experiments, or findings as though they were authentic research results.
2.5. Data Falsification
Manipulating research data, methods, instruments, images, analyses, or results in a manner that misrepresents the research process or its actual findings.
Research Integrity Clarification
Data fabrication and data falsification are forms of research misconduct rather than plagiarism in the strict sense. Both remain prohibited under this policy and the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.
Authors are responsible for ensuring that all sources are accurately cited, research findings are honestly represented, and permissions for the use of third-party materials are obtained where required.
3. Editorial Actions and Retraction Policy
Jurnal Penelitian takes appropriate editorial action when plagiarism or other research-integrity violations are identified. The action taken depends on the evidence, seriousness of the concern, and publication status of the manuscript or article.
3.1. Before Publication
When a submitted manuscript exceeds the established 20% similarity threshold, the editorial office may return the manuscript for revision or reject it in accordance with the journal's policy.
When substantive plagiarism or another serious ethical violation is suspected, the editors may examine the relevant evidence and request clarification from the author before reaching an editorial decision.
A manuscript may be rejected if serious plagiarism or research misconduct is established through editorial assessment.
3.2. After Publication
When plagiarism or other ethical violations are identified after publication, the editorial office will assess the available evidence and determine the appropriate response in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.
Published articles containing substantiated serious plagiarism or other ethical violations that materially compromise their integrity are subject to retraction.
Retraction is intended to protect the reliability and integrity of the scholarly record. Retractions will be publicly announced and clearly indicated in the relevant article record.
A retraction notice should identify the affected article, explain the reason for the retraction as appropriate, and remain accessible to readers.
The original published record should ordinarily remain accessible with a clear retraction indication, except where compelling legal, ethical, or safety considerations require a different action.
3.3. Corrections and Expressions of Concern
Where an identified issue does not justify retraction, the journal may issue a correction or another appropriate notice under its Publication Ethics Policy.
An expression of concern may be considered when serious questions regarding the integrity of a publication remain unresolved and readers should be informed while the matter is assessed.
Post-Publication Integrity
Retraction, correction, and expression of concern are distinct editorial actions. Their use must be consistent with the nature of the identified problem and the procedures established in the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.
4. Author Sanctions and Procedural Fairness
Authors found to have committed plagiarism or other serious publication ethics violations may be subject to editorial sanctions under the journal's established policy.
Depending on the seriousness and circumstances of the violation, sanctions may include manuscript rejection, post-publication retraction, or a temporary prohibition on submitting or publishing further articles in Jurnal Penelitian.
The duration and applicability of a temporary publication prohibition will be determined by the journal's authorized editorial decision-makers after considering the relevant circumstances.
4.1. Assessment and Clarification
Allegations of plagiarism or research misconduct should be examined through a fair, confidential, and evidence-based editorial process.
Where appropriate, authors will be given an opportunity to respond to allegations and provide relevant explanations or supporting documentation.
The editorial office may review similarity reports, original sources, manuscript records, correspondence, and other relevant evidence before determining the appropriate action.
4.2. Editorial Responsibility
The Editor-in-Chief holds final responsibility for manuscript acceptance and rejection decisions, with appropriate management of conflicts of interest and consultation with the editorial team when necessary.
Decisions concerning serious ethical violations, sanctions, and post-publication actions must be consistent with the journal's established editorial governance and Publication Ethics Policy.
4.3. Complaints and Appeals
Authors who believe that a significant factual or procedural error affected an editorial decision may submit a reasoned appeal through the journal's official communication channel.
Complaints and appeals will be handled according to the procedures described in the Publication Ethics Policy .
Related Journal Policies
This policy should be read together with the journal's broader editorial and publication ethics requirements.
Commitment to Research Integrity
Jurnal Penelitian is committed to maintaining originality, transparency, accountability, and scientific integrity. Through systematic similarity screening, responsible editorial assessment, and appropriate action against proven misconduct, the journal seeks to protect the credibility and reliability of its scholarly publications.
