1. General Information

Jurnal Penelitian is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Politeknik Penerbangan Surabaya, Indonesia. It disseminates original scholarship in applied sciences, engineering, technology, education, social sciences and related interdisciplinary fields. Aviation, transportation, safety and vocational education are areas of particular interest, but are not exclusive requirements. All submissions must be original and must not be under consideration by another journal.

2. Scope of Submission

The journal welcomes original research articles; narrative or critical reviews; systematic reviews, meta-analyses and scoping reviews; conceptual or theoretical articles; and case studies. Submissions should address one or more areas of the journal's Focus and Scope: aviation and transportation; engineering and applied technology; education and learning sciences; digital innovation; human factors and occupational safety; management and public policy; social sciences, language and humanities; or environment and sustainability. Papers outside this scope may be declined during editorial screening.

3. Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, accurate academic English, including the title, abstract, keywords, tables, figure captions and main text. An Indonesian-language abstract or a duplicate Indonesian manuscript is not required under these guidelines. Authors are responsible for language quality; the editor may request revisions to improve clarity. A paid proofreading certificate is not automatically required.

4. Manuscript Preparation

Use the approved Jurnal Penelitian Manuscript Template Rev. 3.2 FINAL, available as Microsoft Word (DOCX) and LaTeX. The anonymous review manuscript must contain no identifying author information; submit a separate title page. For original research, organize the article into Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion, followed by Declarations and References. A combined Results and Discussion is permissible when scientifically appropriate. Other article types may adapt the section structure while clearly presenting their methods and scholarly contribution.

Use A4 paper; 3 cm left and right margins; 2.5 cm top and bottom margins; Palatino Linotype 11 pt with 1.15 line spacing in Word, or the equivalent journal class in LaTeX. Use numbered sections and subsections and consistent figure, table and equation references. The complete dummy article in the template demonstrates these conventions.

Recommended manuscript lengths (guidance, not automatic rejection limits): original research 4,000–7,000 words; reviews 5,000–9,000; conceptual articles 4,000–7,000; case studies 3,000–6,000. Systematic and scoping reviews should follow suitable reporting standards, such as PRISMA 2020 and PRISMA-ScR when applicable.

Template download: The permanent OJS links for the approved DOCX and LaTeX ZIP files must be inserted by the journal administrator after the files have been uploaded. Do not use temporary or personal download links.

5. Title, Abstract, and Keywords

The English title should be specific, informative and no longer than 20 words. Provide one unstructured English abstract of 150–200 words summarizing the purpose, methods, main findings and conclusion; avoid citations, figures and unexplained abbreviations. Provide clear English keywords separated by semicolons. Approximately five keywords are recommended, but five is not a strict maximum.

6. Author Names and Affiliations

Enter accurate and consistent names, affiliations and metadata for all authors in OJS and on the separate title page. The corresponding author must supply a valid institutional email address. ORCID identifiers are strongly recommended, but not mandatory. To maintain double-blind review, the reviewer manuscript should not contain identifying names, affiliations, email addresses, acknowledgments or identifying file properties. The editorial office handles the confidential title page separately.

7. Authorship and Contributorship

Authorship is reserved for individuals who have made substantial scholarly contributions and approve the submitted manuscript. All authors must accept appropriate responsibility for its integrity. Guest, honorary and ghost authorship are prohibited. Individuals who contributed but do not qualify for authorship should be acknowledged. Requests to add, remove or reorder authors must be justified and accompanied by agreement from all affected authors, subject to editorial approval.

8. Originality and Plagiarism

Plagiarism, fabricated or falsified data, duplicate submissions, inappropriate text recycling, misleading image manipulation and citation manipulation are prohibited. Manuscripts may undergo similarity screening before peer review. A similarity score is a screening indicator, not automatic proof of misconduct or an automatic acceptance threshold; editors examine the nature and source of any overlap. Authors must cite relevant sources accurately. The journal does not require irrelevant citations to its own articles.

See the Publication Ethics policy.

9. Citation and References

Follow the APA 7th edition author–date style consistently. Examples of in-text citations include Sweller (1988) and (Hattie & Timperley, 2007); for three or more authors, use Dunlosky et al. (2013). Direct quotations require an appropriate locator, such as a page number. List references alphabetically with a hanging indent and full, verified metadata. Include a DOI as an active https://doi.org/... link whenever available. Every in-text citation must match a reference-list entry, and vice versa.

Use relevant primary scholarship and recent research where suitable. Reference counts and recency should reflect the method and research field; no arbitrary percentage alone determines acceptability. Authors may use reference managers but must check their output manually.

10. Research Ethics and Informed Consent

Research involving humans, animals, personal information or regulated activities must follow the relevant ethical, legal and institutional requirements. Where ethics approval is required, identify the responsible committee and approval reference. Obtain informed consent where applicable and protect privacy, confidentiality and vulnerable participants. If approval is not required, explain the applicable exemption or justification when relevant. Do not invent approval numbers or participant consent.

11. Conflict of Interest

A conflict-of-interest declaration is required for every manuscript, including where no conflict exists. Declare relevant financial, professional, personal or institutional relationships. Disclosure does not automatically prevent publication.

Example (if accurate): The authors declare no conflict of interest.

12. Funding Disclosure

A funding statement is required for every manuscript. Identify financial support and grant numbers where applicable, as well as relevant funder involvement.

Example (if accurate): This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.

13. Data Availability and Research Transparency

A data availability statement is required for every manuscript. Explain where supporting data, code or instruments may be accessed, or state why sharing is restricted. Data sharing is encouraged where ethical and lawful, but the declaration must never conflict with consent, privacy or contractual requirements.

Examples (choose only if accurate):

The data supporting the findings are available from the corresponding author upon reasonable request.

The data are not publicly available due to participant privacy restrictions.

14. Use of Artificial Intelligence

Authors must comply with the journal's existing AI Policies. AI tools cannot be listed as authors, and authors remain fully accountable for their work. Any substantive AI use must be disclosed, identifying the tool, version and purpose in the Acknowledgments or appropriate manuscript declaration. AI must not replace original scholarly judgment or be used to fabricate references, data or results.

Under the journal's published policy, generative AI may not be used to create or alter research images or artwork, except for the limited research-method circumstances specified in that policy. Authors should consult the full policy before using AI-assisted imagery. A disclosure is not required when no AI tools were used.

15. Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication. For new articles published from the December 2026 issue onward, the journal applies the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0). This license permits copying, redistribution, and adaptation, including commercial use, provided appropriate attribution is given, the license is linked, changes are indicated, and adaptations that are shared are distributed under the same or a compatible license in accordance with the ShareAlike terms. Third-party content outside the license remains subject to its own rights. Historical articles retain their original license unless a change is validly authorized. The editorial office supplies the final license statement during publication; authors should not insert production metadata or a final license footer into anonymous submissions.

16. Submission Process

  1. Register or log in through the official OJS submissions page.
  2. Read the Focus and Scope, this guide and applicable journal policies.
  3. Prepare an anonymous manuscript using the approved DOCX or LaTeX template.
  4. Provide a separate title page and any required supporting files.
  5. Enter accurate author metadata, title, abstract, keywords and declarations in OJS.
  6. Review all details and complete the submission.

Do not enter DOI, issue designation, received/revised/accepted dates or production copyright statements in the anonymous manuscript.

17. Submission Checklist

  • The manuscript is original, within scope and not simultaneously submitted elsewhere.
  • The current journal template and English-language requirements have been followed.
  • The title is at most 20 words; the English abstract is 150–200 words; English keywords are provided.
  • The review manuscript is anonymous and the separate title page is complete.
  • All authors have approved the submission and author details are accurate.
  • References follow APA 7, and available DOIs are included.
  • Ethics, consent, conflicts of interest, funding and data availability have been addressed.
  • Substantive AI use is disclosed when applicable.
  • Figures, tables, captions, permissions and supplementary files have been checked.

Incomplete submissions may be returned for correction before review.

18. Editorial Screening

Every submission is assessed for fit with the journal scope, scholarly contribution, methodological quality, language, originality, compliance with ethical policies, completeness and template conformity. A manuscript may be returned for correction or declined without external review when minimum requirements are not met. A similarity report alone does not determine a misconduct finding.

19. Peer Review

Manuscripts passing screening are evaluated under a double-blind review process, normally by at least two independent reviewers with relevant expertise. Reviewers assess originality, research design, validity of analysis, ethical integrity, clarity and contribution. Review recommendations inform, but do not replace, the final decision of the Editor-in-Chief. Divergent assessments may be resolved by editorial evaluation or additional expert review. Submission does not guarantee acceptance.

See the Peer Review Process.

20. Revision of Manuscripts

When revision is requested, submit a revised anonymous manuscript and a separate point-by-point response addressing each reviewer and editor comment. Explain respectfully any recommendations not adopted. The standard target for a revision is 30 calendar days, unless an editor specifies otherwise. Authors may request an extension before the deadline with an explanation. Additional review may be required after major revisions.

21. Complaints and Appeals

Authors may raise evidence-based complaints about editorial handling, ethics or the fairness of a decision through the journal's official contact page. Identify the manuscript and describe the alleged factual or procedural problem. Appeals should be considered by the Editor-in-Chief or an appropriately independent editor where conflicts of interest exist. An appeal does not guarantee a changed decision.

22. Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals

The journal aims to preserve the accuracy of the scholarly record. Documented errors may require a linked correction; serious unreliability or misconduct may warrant retraction; unresolved concerns may justify an expression of concern. Published records must not be silently removed or altered to conceal errors. Withdrawal of a manuscript before publication is handled separately from post-publication correction or retraction. Decisions follow the journal's publication ethics process and relevant COPE guidance.

23. Archiving and Digital Preservation

The journal is committed to durable access to published articles and issues. Published content is managed using Open Journal Systems and institutional technical arrangements. Preservation services or repository participation should only be claimed when active and independently verified. Authors may retain permitted versions in accordance with the applicable copyright and licensing policies.

24. Publication Schedule

The journal publishes three issues annually, in April, August and December. Submissions are accepted through OJS throughout the year, subject to editorial capacity. Accepted manuscripts are scheduled for an appropriate issue; a publication date is not guaranteed by submission or acceptance alone. These revised author requirements are intended for the December 2026 issue onward, with transitional cases handled by the editorial office.

25. Article Processing Charges and Author Fees

There is no submission fee. An article processing charge (APC) may apply after a manuscript has been accepted, as specified on the journal's official Publication Fee page. Payment must not determine the scientific acceptance decision. Any waiver or exception requires written editorial or publisher authorization; an automatic waiver is not promised. Open access refers to free access for readers and does not necessarily mean that publication carries no APC.

26. Responsibility of Authors

Authors are responsible for accurate reporting, reproducible descriptions, ethical compliance, verified references, valid permissions and all statements made in their submission. All authors must approve the work and cooperate with legitimate editorial requests, review revisions and post-publication investigations. Significant errors discovered after publication should be reported promptly.

27. Further Journal Policies

For authoritative details, consult the Focus and Scope, Peer Review Process, Publication Ethics, AI Policies, Publication Fee, and Submissions. Where the journal's detailed policy and this summary differ, the editorial office should resolve and publicly correct the inconsistency before enforcing the relevant requirement.

Before Submission
