Abstract

Composite is a combination of two or more materials so as to provide better properties of the constituent materials. This research uses polyester resin as a matrix with ramie fiber reinforcement, because this fiber is strong, lightweight, cheap and environmentally friendly, this study aims to determine the tensile test on ramie fiber composites with variations in volume fraction and hardener composition, so that we can find out the best composition for the material. The test sample was made with a percentage of hardener to resin with variations of 5%, 10%, and 15%, then a mixture of resin and hardener was applied to ramie fibers (woven) with variations in the volume fraction of 20%, 40% and 60% of the fiber, then tested for strength tensile machine test. The results of this study were the highest elongation for ramie fiber composites with a hardener composition of 5% and the highest tensile strength at 60% fiber volume fraction.
