Abstract

Safety is a very important thing in the world of aviation, because in the world of aviation so many individuals involved both passengers, cabin crew, airport officials, and others. For the smoothness of this, of course, personnel knowledge is needed on how to carry out the process of handling vehicle accident rescue (VAR). This study aims to ensure that the performance of personnel  when facing an emergency situation to be maximized, because there are still some personnel who still do not understand the material terkait VAR so potentially hamper the handling process. This study uses qualitative methods with a descriptive approach that includes interviews, observations, documentation and literature studies. The results obtained from interviews, observations and documentation, explain that the role of VAR competence is very important to support the knowledge of ARFF KNO personnel in the process of handling vehicle accidents at kualanamu  International Airport. Therefore, an additional 5 or 10 personnel with VAR competence are needed, so that the number of personnel with these competencies becomes 20% of the total number of personnel so that they can support rescue activities in the ARFF KNO Unit. Obtained a conclusion that the obstacles faced by the ARFF KNO unit after an interview involving 3 VAR-related personnel is that only 5 personnel out of 72 know or  understand  about  the  handling  of  VAR  which  makes  the  ARFF  KNO unit potentially experience obstacles when evacuating or rescuing
